Opening scene analysis

The opening of this film is very dark and holds a lot of suspense, it shows an unexpected reunion of a farther and son. You can see in the discussion that the son Tommy has a certain discomfort and resent towards his father. As the scene goes on he begins to mention about his mother who passed away and Tommys father having a drinking problem. Tommy also mentions something towards women getting beaten, 'its hard to find a women who can take a punch nowadays' this is referenced towards his dad no longer having a women in his life. This could perhaps show that the relationship between his mum and dad wasn't very good. Towards the end of the opening clip Tommy also finds a picture of his brother and by his reaction and questioning of the picture to his dad it perhaps shows he is jealous or envious of his brother.
