Semiotics

Today in media studies we learnt about semiotics:
This is the study of signs and also the study of anything which stands for 'something else.'
Denotation- what we see when we look at an image. (what it is).
Connotation- what we understand from the image (what other meanings it has).

The connotation of this photo is that there are three teenagers standing together and the large title which says Superbad.
The denotation of this photo is that the three boys look very intimidated or frightened. the way that Mclovin (the boy on the far left) has his arms crossed could mean he is worried. He has a very closed body language. Then the other two also look very worried, but perhaps Seth (the one in the middle) is the leader of the three since he is in the middle, he calls the shots within the group.
